Getting started with MeshCore in the Evansville area

MeshCore is an open-source, off-grid text-messaging network that runs over low-power LoRa radios. No cell service and no internet are needed for a message to hop from device to device through repeaters. Our local repeaters are shown on the live map.

What you need

1. A MeshCore-capable LoRa device. See hardware recommendations.
2. The MeshCore firmware flashed onto it with the official web flasher.
3. The MeshCore app on your phone (Android, iOS or web). Links are on the MeshCore site.
4. A decent antenna placed as high as you safely can. Height matters more than power.

Steps

1. Flash the Companion firmware for your device (use Repeater only if you are deliberately building a repeater).
2. Pair the device with the app and give it a name.
3. Choose the radio settings preset for the USA in the app. Use the preset rather than typing numbers by hand, and check the MeshCore docs if in doubt.
4. Turn on location sharing if you would like to appear on the map.
5. Send an advert and watch for other nodes to appear.
