Advert

A broadcast a node sends so that others learn it exists.

Antenna gain

How much an antenna focuses signal, measured in dBi. More gain is not always better.

Channel

A shared group conversation protected by a shared secret key.

Client / Companion

A node you carry or use with a phone app to send and read messages.

Coverage map

A map made by driving around (wardriving) to record where a signal can be reached.

LoRa

The long-range, low-power radio technique MeshCore uses.

MQTT

A lightweight internet protocol used to share what a node hears with a public analyzer.

Repeater

A node, usually fixed and high up, that forwards messages to extend the network.

Room server

A node that stores messages so people can read them later.

Sensor

A node that reports readings such as temperature or battery voltage.

Wardriving

Driving a route with a test node to record where signals can be heard.
