Property owner FAQ: hosting a node

What is being placed on my property?

A small, low-power radio in a weatherproof box with an antenna, often solar powered.
It's the size of a toaster hidden under a solar panel attached to a high vertical pipe.

Will it interfere with my Wi-Fi, TV or cell phone?

If it does, it might be a miracle. Meshcore operates on 915 MHz LoRa frequency band
that spans 902 MHz to 928 MHz and is designated as an unlicensed Industrial, Scientific,
and Medical (ISM) spectrum for North America and Australia. They will operate at 1 watt
or less (typically a third of a watt). This would be a very dim lightbulb if it was light.
These are FCC Part 15 devices: They must accept interference, not cause them.

Who pays for it?

The solar nodes are usually less than $150. The majority of these nodes will be donated.
However, you can buy one if you would like and if you need help with it contact an admin.

Who owns it?

If you want to own it, we suggest paying for it. However, if you require ownership of
donated property, then say so before it donated and installed. We think this is fair
to the person donating it.

Who maintains it?

The person who owns it or the installer. Once programmed, the maintenance can
can be done wirelessly nearby. If the device fails mechanically, it would be
faster to retrieve it with a replacement and fix it later.

Can I have it removed?

Absolutely. It's on your property. If you decided to own the repeater when it was installed,
remove it as you wish. If you lost contact with the owner and need it removed contact an
admin on this page.
